CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS
We have had a wonderful
Christmas here at St Columba’s. Many
different services have been held, both for families to enjoy and some very
spiritual services which have been available for anyone to attend.
Our celebrations started,
just like a home, with the decoration of the Church and putting up the
tree. Well done to those brave souls who
managed to get such a large tree upright and decorated. The flowers within the Church were beautiful
and the crib helps us visually to see what Christmas is all about.
Our Christingle service on
Christmas Eve was very well attended and it was lovely to see so many new faces
amongst the congregation. Our children
from both Messy Church and Fish Club (our Sunday club)
performed a wonderful play for us about a little angel who visited Jesus in the
stable. They performed brilliantly and ‘well
done’ goes to both the children and the youth leaders who directed them so
well. Christingles were passed out after
the service and enjoyed by all – I know mine formed part of my table decorations
on Christmas Day!
We also had our usual service
of Midnight Mass at 11.30 on Christmas Eve and a lovely celebration on
Christmas morning.
A few days after Christmas we
celebrated a service of lessons and carols with our Choir and organist who had
worked tirelessly to ensure we enjoyed some beautiful music. This was a lovely service full of
thanksgiving and the lessons we heard helped us to understand the promises that
God has made to us through the teachings of the Bible.
Many thanks as always goes to
the team who decorated the Church and made it look so beautiful, to the choir
and organist who helped us to enjoy such wonderful music and to Fr Geoff and Fr
Peter who helped us to celebrate this special time in our Church calendar.
Why not come along to one of
our regular services or social events and ‘give us a try’? What have you got to lose?
